As well as the above I'm also interested in the Railroads of the USA, especially in the Western States. The narrow gauge lines of Colorado are facinating. Those still offering service are so different from anything in the UK and it is still possible to drive along the trackbeds of many disused lines.

  • Society for those interested in the Railways of Cumbria

Lancashire Record Office

  • The LRO holds many items of interest to the Local Historian of the old County Palatine of Lancashire

Bill Bedford's Page

  • As well as listing his models, Bill's site is a good place to link on to other line and modelling societies

Cumbria Heritage Services

  • Cumbria Heritage Services page, with links to the libraries and record offices in Cumbria. The Cumbria Record Offices hold many items of interest to both the Local and Railway Historian

Public Record Office

  • Many railway and canal records are held in the vaults of the PRO. Within their site there is now guidance to those intending to delve into their transport records. Look under the Finding Aids button, and then Leaflets.

The Signal Box

  • A site dedicated to British Railway signalling with an emphasis on mechanical signalling. There are a couple of images relevant to Cumbrian Railways in here.

Royal Commission on Historic Monuments of England

  • A potential source of information for bothe the Local and Railway historian. As well as holding information on historic monuments (of all shapes and sizes) the RCHME have a massive archive of aerial photographs, many taken in the 1940s.

George's Canal Boating in the U.K. and Europe

  • A site dedicated to Canals with links to pages on hiring boats, planning canal trips and the history of Britains Canals. There are also links to the sites for various canals around the world.

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway

  • La'al Ratty is always worth a visit

  • This site has information on the railway and how to become a member of it's support organisation
